Tricky writing: four strategies every fiction writer needs.
Â
The workshop with Dr Tara East will focus on four strategies writers can use during the drafting of revision stages of a creative work. These strategies are shapeshifting, play, chance, and order. Shapeshifting refers to the ways we might question our work—how might we do this differently? Play refers to the role of imagination and the question ‘what if’. Chance is the patterns or elements that develop in the work without any deliberate effort on our part, and order is the way in which we prepare a work to become a marketable product.
Â
These strategies were identified and developed as part of a four-year research investigation into the connection between the trickster archetype and the lived experience of being a writer.Â
Â
Attendees of the workshop will learn:
- new ways to approach and engage with their creative work.
- how to self-assess their creative work and consider new possibilities.
- strategies for solving creative problems.
- how to think differently about their story and the way they write it.
- new ways to keep their creative practice playful and engaging.
- a number of techniques to consider when revising their work for publication.
