📖 With author and publisher Sophia Whitfield

📍 The Write Gallery

Sophia Whitfield is a children’s author and publisher who writes stories that help children feel seen, understood, and included. Writing under the name Alex Field, her work centres on empathy, friendship, and the power of communication—especially for children whose voices are often overlooked.

Her books gently open up important conversations about disability, resilience, and belonging. In her Ava Spark series, for example, she introduces readers to a young girl with cerebral palsy who communicates using an eye-gaze device, showing that connection and friendship can take many forms.

What makes Sophia’s work especially meaningful is that it’s deeply personal. Her storytelling is shaped by her own experiences as a mother, and her writing carries a strong sense of compassion, honesty, and hope. Through her books, she invites children (and adults) to see the world through someone else’s eyes—and to respond with kindness.

At its heart, her work is about one simple but powerful idea: every child has something to say, and every child deserves to be heard.
