Meet Nathan Taylor
Nathan Taylor is a Queensland primary school teacher and the indie author behind the Winterthorn Saga, a contemporary fantasy series that kicked off with The Non-Magical Declan Moore — shortlisted for the 2023 Aurealis Awards' Best Young Adult Novel. He sold his first short story in 2018 and has spent the years since writing on weekends and school holidays while teaching full-time, proof that a consistent writing habit can turn into published books.
In this masterclass, Nathan brings that same classroom experience to young writers aged 10 to 12, showing them how to build a story world, create characters worth following, and actually finish what they start. He knows firsthand what makes kids this age switch off a story — and what makes them yearn to read the next chapter. Aspiring writers leave with real tools for their own fiction, taught by someone who's done the work: from first short story sale to shortlisted novelist.
